The Stoic secret to staying focused during the coronavirus outbreak

By March 20, 2020Mindset

“Your mind is like this water, my friend. When it is agitated, it becomes difficult to see. But if you allow it to settle, the answer becomes clear.” ― Bil Keane.

So, the coronavirus is all over the place at the moment.

A lot of people have already lost their jobs.

Businesses are losing clients.

Some people are buying 60 rolls of toilet paper (I still don’t understand this).

And, sadly, a lot of people have unfortunately lost their lives.

But, like with everything else in life, there are always lessons to be learned.

And the corona pandemic is no different.

This is actually a perfect example of how your mindset will affect every decision you’re going to make.

You always have options… and yes, some people decided buying 3+ million rolls of toilet paper would be a great idea(?!).

However, it was still a choice they made.

Here’s my point:

In your business, you’re going to encounter stressful and even painful times. But, how you respond to those situations will tell you everything about your inner psychology.

It’s like Marcus Aurelius said:

“If you are distressed by anything external, the pain is not due to the thing itself, but to your estimate of it; and this you have the power to revoke at any moment.” ― Marcus Aurelius, Meditations

It’s never about “what happens to you.”

It’s about “how you decide to react.”

For example, when I was younger…maybe 20 years old…I constantly blamed everyone and everything for anything bad that happened to me.

Instead of taking ownership of the fact that I was an insecure loser with absolutely no social skills, I decided to blame everyone else.

Newsflash, Kristian from the past… whining doesn’t help a damn thing.

Today, I’m focused on how I can grow and learn from this situation.

What new skills can I learn while I’m being quarantined?

How can I help and serve more people even though I’m more or less locked up?

Again, this is a change in mindset for most people.

But, if you want to take your business to the next level, you need to develop your inner psychology just as much as you’re focused on growing your business.

You need to stay positive.

And most important:

You need to learn how to stay hyper-focused.

Being able to focus relentlessly is the closet thing to a superpower you can have.

Plus, if you ask Warren Buffett and Bill Gates, focus is the #1 thing that helped them grow their businesses to over a billion dollars.

Yes, actual story, Google it if you don’t believe me.

That’s one of the reasons why I included deep mindset work in my 1:1 coaching program for entrepreneurs.

Believe it or not, there’s actually a step-by-step path you can follow to build an unshakeable mindset and relentless focus.

I reveal everything in my private 1:1 business coaching program.
